Join the Driver and Fireman aboard an original Abt steam locomotive, ascending the 1:16 gradient under the power of the Abt rack and pinion system to Rinadeena Saddle and back again.
Your journey will start at 7:30am at WCWR’s rail maintenance facility, Carswell Park, with a safety briefing, before you join the locomotive crew to work alongside and assist with:

For the safety of participants, this experience is only open to those that can travel independently and have a medium fitness level. Standing for long periods of time in a cramped, hot environment is a part of this experience.

There is very little room on the footplate, however, you will be able to bring a small bag with you. A light refreshment is included, and we also have kiosks available at remote stations that sell drinks and snacks.
For regulatory purposes, you will not be able to drive the train independently. Our locomotive crew are trained to provide an inclusive experience that will make you feel a part of the team. You will also undertake jobs integral to this passenger experience’s daily running.
