2024 | End of Summer Season Update

With Easter behind us, we mark the end of the 2023/24 peak visitor season. It’s been an incredible season and we’ve welcomed tens of thousands of visitors into our cafes and onboard since recommencing passenger services in November 2023. We’d like to thank all our passengers that have taken the time to journey with us from Queenstown and Strahan, especially those who have taken time out of their day to share their experiences with us.

Passenger feedback has been incredibly important as we continue to shape our newer journeys and respond to customer feedback. It has been a huge learning for us to launch these new experiences, and we have changed how we communicate our experiences to better manage expectations, whilst also providing additional value and new experiences for those travelling with us in response to some of the more constructive feedback. Overwhelmingly though, we’ve been heartened by so many positive comments and feedback, which really keeps us going when the going gets tough!

As we head into a comparatively quieter season, we say goodbye to some of our amazing staff that join us seasonally. Our entire workforce is a dedicated group of professionals that keep our doors open and our seasonal team are every inch a part of who we are. If you’re interested in joining us, either permanently or seasonally, keep an eye on our employment page!

We have recently published our timetable through to 31 March 2025 which revolves around our two shorter journeys; Lynchford Express and Teepookana and the King. We continue to work on plans to reopen the middle section of the line but cannot confirm a timeframe for re-opening at this stage.

We recognise that this is disappointing for some of our train enthusiasts who are holding out visiting our region until our longer journeys recommence. Whilst this is somewhat understandable, your visitation is important to our local communities and, especially if you are local, we encourage you to consider visiting the West more than once. Our region is exceptional in all seasons and worth experiencing for all it has to offer. Besides, our shorter journeys are a little different and you might even learn something new!
